Dee Norton Opens New Mt. Pleasant Location
On Friday, August 24th, 2018, The Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center held a grand opening event at its new center, located at 677 Long Point Road. Before making the move to its new location in Mt. Pleasant, Dee Norton reached out to The Office People to provide interior design and our office furnishing expertise.
After entering through a welcoming garden, that includes a gate with custom ironwork incorporating the center’s logo, visitors are welcomed by a massive purple wall displaying the organization's logo. The new center’s main lobby and waiting room includes an additional smaller, glass-enclosed room that older children may use to study.
From the waiting room visitors progress down a main hallway with specific rooms on either side, and an ancillary waiting room that lets staff know who is waiting on them. The offices include large sit stand desks with bamboo tops and a white base. The offices also include white wood grain filing pedestals, upholstered back task chairs, a two-drawer white woodgrain later file with bookshelves, and a leather lounge chair. The conference rooms include fourteen foot powered conference tables with a walnut finish and mesh high-back chairs. The ancillary waiting room includes upholstered arm chairs, walnut roundtables with a grey base, and a white woodgrain book shelf. The break room includes grey upholstered benching, grey upholstered back side chairs, grey upholstered back high stools, white woodgrain square tables, and a large bar-height white woodgrain table.
Dee Norton’s research shows that in the East Cooper area, it has served only an estimated 36 percent of children suffering from abuse. On Daniel Island and in Cainhoy, that number drops to 21 percent. The new Long Point Center and the renovated King Street facility are projected to be able to serve about 3,500 children a year, more than twice the current number.
